Legitimate Sculptures

2020

Plywood, large particle board, Arduino computer, Nikon DSLR, panel lights, button, HD screen, cabling

The artist Franz West described the works he put on plinths as 'legitimate sculptures'. This machine, made for the TAPS Now show  at the Kosar Contemporary, Bristol, invites the visitor to become a sculpture on a plinth (a 'legitimate sculpture'). The visitor mounts the plinth and strikes a pose, presses an illuminated button on the plinth and this starts a sequence of panel lights counting down to the triggering of a camera shutter.  Seconds later their image is displayed on the monitor opposite. The image remains until the button is pressed again.
